San Antonio Cheese Tasting

Quesería San Antonio — a small dairy with big flavors of Costa Blanca

If you love places with soul, where food is made with passion, Quesería San Antonio is worth discovering. It is a hidden gem in Costa Blanca. Tucked among the green hills of Callosa d’en Sarrià, just a few minutes from Polop, this family-run dairy has been making cheese the traditional way: with local milk, natural methods, and without hurry.

Everything at San Antonio starts with the raw ingredient. Each morning, fresh milk is collected from nearby farmers. They provide mainly Murciano-Granadina goats and cows from small farms in Alicante and Murcia. The cheeses here have a simple, honest composition: milk, cultures, rennet, and salt. Thanks to this, every bite reveals the Mediterranean sun. You can also taste the unique character of the local mountains.

What kind of cheese can you taste?

The selection is surprisingly wide for a small dairy, so it’s worth trying several varieties:

  • fresh cheeses — mild, creamy, with a delicate milky flavor, perfect with olive oil, herbs, and fresh bread,
  • semi-aged cheeses — more expressive, with a stronger aroma, firm texture, and a longer finish,
  • aged cheeses — full-bodied, sometimes coated in herbs like rosemary, adding a distinctly Mediterranean touch,
  • goat cheeses — from soft, fresh rounds to matured cheeses with a deep, sophisticated flavor.

If you usually buy cheese from supermarkets, this tasting can completely change the way you think about goat cheese.

Cheese tasting at the dairy

The best part is, of course, joining the San Antonio Cheese Tasting, where you can try a variety of fresh and aged cheeses straight from the dairy. At Quesería San Antonio you can book a tasting — a curated selection of around 8–9 cheeses, from fresh to long-aged. Tastings are held in a cozy corner of the dairy or on the courtyard, while the family explains how their cheeses are made, where the milk comes from, and what makes each style unique.

This is not a tourist show. It is a true local experience, following the rhythm of a working artisan dairy. After the San Antonio Cheese Tasting, you can visit the small shop on site and take home your favorite cheeses, experiencing flavors unique to this family-run dairy.
